What is a word problem on Addition?
When each word sentence and solution of the problem can be written in an
addition sentence then the problem is called word problem on addition.
Example:
Tram had 2 bottles. Biden gave him 3 more. How many bottles does Tram now
have?
Addition sentence of the problem: 2 + 3 = 5.
Sample Question of Word Problem on Addition:
1. Linda had 3 sharpeners. Steven gave her 7 more. How
many sharpeners does Linda have now?
Solution:
3 + 7 = 10.
[start counting from 7 and go for next 3 steps: 8,9,10. So 10 is the
problem solution]
So, Linda has 10 sharpeners now.
Follow the steps:
No of sharpeners that had Linda = 3.
No of sharpeners that was given by Steven = 7.
Total number of sharpeners = 3 + 7 = 10.
2. There are 6 green rubber bands and 4 blue rubber
bands. How many rubber bands are there?
Solution:
[Start up counting to add the numbers together. Start from 6 and count up
4: 7,8,9,10]
6 + 4 = 10.
The sum is 10.
So, There are 10 rubber bands in all.
Follow the steps:
No of Green rubber bands = 6.
No of Blue rubber bands = 4.
Total no of rubber bands = 6 + 4 = 10.
3. Trump has 3 dogs and 4 cats in his house. How many
animals he have in his house in all?
Solution:
3 + 4 = 7.
[start count from 3 and go for next 4 steps: 4,5,6,7]
The sum is 7.
So, Trump has 7 animals in his house in all.

No of cats = 4.
Total no of animal = 3 + 4 = 7.
