Addition 2-digit number with Regrouping
When we add the ones-place digit of two numbers, the sum will be a one-digit number or a two-digit number. And when the sum is a two-digit number, then the addition regrouping rule is applied for the addition process of tens place digits.
Example:
Suppose
two numbers are 56 and 38
The
ones place digits of 56 and 38 are respectively 6 and 8.
Now,
6 + 8 = 14
The
sun is a two digit number.
So,
the addition regrouping rule will be applied for the addition process of tens
place digits.
Rules of Addition Regrouping:
If
the added value of two ones place digits have a tens place digit, then the tens
place digit of added value will be added with the tens place digits of
mentioned two numbers.
Example:
56 +
38 = ?
Ones
place Addition:
6
ones + 8 ones = 14 ones = 1 tens + 4 ones
Tens
place Addition:
5 tens
+ 3 tens = 8 tens
Ones
place Addition + Tens place Addition:
1
tens + 4 ones
=

We
can show it simplesy:

Here, 6 + 8 = 14
So, we shall put 4 in ones place of the sum, and 1 will be added with tens place digits of two numbers.
So, 5 + 3 + 1 = 9 and we shall put 9 in tens place of the sum.
Therefore, the sum will be 94.
1. Add 46 and 39 and explain the regrouping process.
Solution:
Sum of ones place digits
= 6 ones + 9 ones
= 15 ones
Regrouping 15 ones:
15 ones
= 1 tens + 5 ones ……….. (i)
Sum of tens place digits
= 4 tens + 3 tens
= 7 tens ………… (ii)
(i) + (ii)
1 tens + 5 ones
7 tens + 0 ones
So, the sum is 85.
2. Show the addition process
of 58 + 39 in picture?
Solution:
(i) Add 8 + 9 = 17, place 7
in ones column in the summation place, and place 1 at the top of the tens
column as per the below picture.
