Grade 1 Math Subtraction of Tens
Subtraction of Tens
What is subtraction of Tens?
When
subtrahend is tens, then we minus the tens digit of subtrahend from the tens digit
of the minuend and the ones digit of the minuend stays same for the difference.
Example:
67 –
10 = 57.
Here,
Tens
of Minuend - 1 = 6 – 1 = 5
Ones
of Minuend = 7
So, the difference = 57
Ten to Ten Subtractions:
(a) 100
- 90 = ?
(b)
50 – 40 = ?
(c)
80 – 30 = ?
Solution:
(a)
100 –
90
= 10
tens – 9 tens
=
(10-9) tens
= 1
ten
= 10
(b)
50 –
40
= 5
tens – 4 tens
=
(5-4) tens
= 1
ten
= 10
(c)
80 –
30
= 8
tens – 3 tens
= (8 –
3) tens
= 5
tens
= 50

3. Jenny had 50 coloring books. She gave 20 coloring books
to her brother. How many coloring books does she have now?
Answer:
Jenney
had 50 books.
She
gave 20 books.
So,
here minuend = 50 and subtrahend = 20.
So,
50 – 20 = ?
5 – 2
= 3.
So,
50 – 20 = 30.
At
last, we can say, Jenny has 30 books now.
